What’s The Frequency, Kenneth? is arguably the best song on “Monster” (1994). This is a truly special live performance due to the amazing scenery: the Cologne platz just besides its famous and beautiful gothic Dom. But also the band delivers an awesome performance: it´s rock and roll as good as it gets and you can feel German audience really enjoying the show.
Country feedback (from the album Out of time) is what is usually known as a “deep cut”. Not a hit single, no radio airplay. But it comes to be one of REM´s finest and most impressive songs ever and Michael Stipe´s favourite one.
There are several fantastic performances of this song on the internet; so difficult to choose I finally included two. Both are from 1998 and are truly stunning: heartfelt, great sounding. The kind of music that makes time stand still for a while.
The first one is from a show at Shoreline Amphitheatre (Mountain View, California) and Neil Young joins the band on stage for an impressive result. Godfather Young kind of acts as if he is alone on stage but his guitar picking is omnipresent; Stipe is really aware of his great instrumental delivery that really highs the song level.
The second one is from Jools Holland TV show and its highlights are Stipe´s vocal delivery and an incredible slide guitar work. Play them loud and choose your own favourite!!
Is the band led by brothers Michael and Brian D’Addario the “next big thing”? Well, we don´t know by now, but what is sure is we must keep an eye on them.
They sound like some kind of seventies Beatles with Todd Rundgren at the controls. Stellar musicianship, beautifully crafted songs; for sure they have a vast knowledge of pop and rock music. These words is one of their best songs and this is a great sounding performance live on 89.3 The Current.
Finally the man that gives name to this site on the blog. This is an unique performance of one of The Kinks best songs. Davies and his band share the stage with the Crouch End Festival Chorus and the result is amazing. A gorgeous arrangement of the song that truly highlights its musical qualities. Pure joy!
I don´t like all of Beck´s body of work to date. But I really enjoy his most acoustic guitar driven music, especially his 2002 album Sea change and his latest Morning phase. From this one is the outstanding Blue Moon.
This is a beautiful and truly heartfelt performance of the song at the EllenTVShow. Beck Hansen displays all his artistry in this delivery leaving no room for sceptics.
Swedish siblings Karla and Johanna Söderberg are well known for their excellent covers of classic pop songs.
In this live performance on BBC Radio 2 they deliver a beautiful and truly great one of The Kinks landmark song. A folkie, delicate and warm approach to one of the best pop songs ever written.
Alabama Shakes nail it with this song´s passionate and great sounding live performance. Singer Brittany Howard is one of the best and most amazing rock performers arisen in the last decade. Truly outstanding !!!
